Tanjungpura University's Chemistry S1 Study Program held a public lecture on Friday, October 11, 2019, by presenting a speaker from the BATAN Nuclear Quality Standardization Center, Agustinus Bayu Purnomo M.Eng. This public lecture was entitled "The Role of Nuclear Science and Technology Standardization in Strengthening National Competitiveness".
Some of the material points presented include providing material on the role of nuclear technology in several aspects of life, namely in the fields of food, health, defense and energy. In the food sector, he explained the success of BATAN in producing superior food crops and food preservation process technology without changing the color or taste of food products, namely with controlled radiation. In the health sector, BATAN also has a radioisotope manufacturing facility for medical purposes, developing a renograph tool for examining kidney function. In addition, BATAN has also succeeded in creating technology in controlling the breeding of dengue fever vector mosquitoes. In the field of defense technology, it has developed anti-radar technology for defense equipment and the last is the role of BATAN in the application of nuclear technology for energy sources.
