Robi, who is a student at the Chemistry Department, FMIPA UNTAN, told of his experiences and struggles to win the ON MIPA-PT Silver medal. At the University level selection, Robi managed to get the highest score in chemistry. Due to this result, Robi, who in the previous year won 2nd place at the direct national OSN-Pertamina event, was able to advance directly to the ON MIPA-PT national level selection without having to go through stage II selection. The UNTAN delegation at regional level selection numbered 9 people (divided into 4 fields). Of the 9 people, 2 people managed to pass to take part in the national selection, namely Eisar and Ricky. Determining the number of participants for the national level selection is based on a quota: 2 people from each region, 2nd and 3rd place winners at OSN-Pertamina in 2012, and students who have passed the passing grade. So it is not surprising that the National level ON MIPA-PT participants are dominated by students from various well-known universities in Indonesia such as UI, ITB, and UGM.
The ON MIPA-PT national level selection took place on 29 May – 1 June 2013, at the Inna Garuda Hotel Yogyakarta. For the field of chemistry, 4 subfields are being tested, namely: Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, each of which is given 2 hours, so the total test time is 8 hours over 2 days. The test mechanism is by answering 5 essay questions for each subfield. The test results were then corrected by the jury to determine the winners/medalists for ON MIPA-PT 2013. As a result, the champions at ON MIPA-PT 2013 were dominated by students from universities on the island of Java. Robi was one of two participants from Kalimantan who won medals. In this field of chemistry, UNTAN succeeded in proving its quality alongside silver medalists from the University of Indonesia (UI), Airlangga University, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and Jember University. The participants from UNLAM (Banjarmasin) who also came from Kalimantan managed to get an honorable mention.
Based on the experience and achievements he has achieved, Robi expressed his message that UNTAN students can compete with students from well-known universities on the island of Java, both in terms of writing and in olympiads like this. The education process at UNTAN has also demonstrated its quality. The main thing we (UNTAN students) need is enthusiasm, confidence, and the will to continue learning and working hard, which is perfected by trust in every competition we take part in. Robi, who is currently completing his final assignment/thesis, hopes that in the future more and more UNTAN students will excel and make UNTAN's name proud at the national and international level. Apart from that, support from the campus will be the main motivation for students who carry the UNTAN name in competing.
Jaya UNTAN! Jaya Indonesia! Hidup Mahasiswa!
