Joint Selection to Enter State Universities in 2014
Background
Based on Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education, Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 66 of 2010 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation Number 17 of 2010 concerning Management and Implementation of Education, and Regulation of the Minister of National Education Number 34 of 2010 concerning New Student Program Admission Patterns Undergraduate studies at universities organized by the Government, the system for admitting new students to undergraduate programs at universities is carried out through national selection and other forms.
Based on the results of the meeting between the Board of Chancellors of Indonesian State Universities (MRPTNI) and the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, it was determined that the National Selection for Entrance to State Universities (SNMPTN) was the responsibility of the Government, while other forms of selection were the responsibility of MRPTNI and/ or the Chancellor of the respective State University.
One other form of selection for admitting new students is the Joint Selection for Entrance to State Universities (SBMPTN). SBMPTN is a selection pattern carried out jointly by all State Universities in one integrated system and held simultaneously through written examinations. Apart from the written exam, the arts and sports science study program also requires a skills test. In line with government programs through the Bidikmisi program, participants from economically disadvantaged families and who have adequate academic achievements can take part in SBMPTN without a registration fee.
Objective
The 2014 State University Entrance Joint Selection (SBMPTN) aims to select and obtain prospective students who have the academic ability to attend and complete their education at tertiary institutions in accordance with applicable regulations. SBMPTN also aims to provide opportunities for prospective students to choose more than one PTN across regions.
