Tanjungpura University had extraordinary guests on 21-23 November 2013. This was because representatives in the research field from Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the Philippines came to UNTAN to make presentations at "The 7th International Symposium on Kuroshio Science". This event started on Thursday, November 21, 2013, opened by Prof. Dr. Thamrin Usman, DEA as Chancellor of Tanjungpura University, Pontianak.
The field technical committee in this event are International Student Ambassadors are Yuvika (The Leader) (Department of International Management, Faculty of Economics), Tajul Anshor F. H. (Vice I) (Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine), Septami Setiawati (Vice II) (Department of Chemistry, FMIPA), Melifa Gardenia (Member) (Department of Electrical Engineering, Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Engineering), Monica Apriyana Limas (Member) (Department of International Management, Faculty of Economics), Albert Suryajaya (Member)(Department of Civil Engineering, Architectural Study Program, Faculty of Engineering ), and Ali Murtadlo (Member) (Department of Electrical Engineering, Industrial Study Program, Faculty of Engineering).
According to Septami, the holding of this symposium had a very positive impact on Tanjungpura University itself. Apart from expanding networks in the world of research, this symposium is also an opportunity to introduce UNTAN to international eyes and the cultures of West Kalimantan. This symposium has also opened the participants' insight into an opportunity to exchange ideas with experts in the international world.
The closing ceremony was held on November 22 2013 with remarks from Prof. Dr. Akira Tominaga (President of Kuroshio Science) and Dr. Seno Darmawan Panjaitan (Director of International Affairs Office of Tanjungpura University) and the delivery of honey as souvenirs from UNTAN to representatives of Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and the Philippines. Next year the event will be held in Japan as host of the 8th International Symposium.
